Altair Avionics offers Bell 206 & MD 500 helicopter owners and operators the first affordable automated data acquisition and engine control platform. The FAA certified IntelliStart+ system was designed for Rolls Royce / Allison 250 powered helicopters and it performs a dual function, recording engine and flight data for interrogation and diagnostics. The system provides FADEC-like starts by monitoring critical engine parameters during the engine start sequence and modulating fuel flow to prevent "Hot Start" occurrences. IntelliStart+ assists during the start by limiting damaging thermal temperature peaks in the engine hot section, thus extending the useful life of the engine and its components. After the start, the system monitors critical flight parameters enabling easy assurance that the aircraft is being operated within manufacturer and owner set limits. Originally developed for Bell UH-1 applications, SmartCycle+ is now FAA certified for a wide range of helicopters. The system has been designed to identify and record event and trend data from both airframes and engines. The data available from the system allows easy assurance that the aircraft is being operated within manufacturer and owner set limits and simply facilitates the data acquisition and reporting requirements needed to operate engines on condition. In cases where Repetitive Heavy Lift (RHL) or Retirement Index Number (RIN) cycle counting algorithms exist, Altair systems can be configured to recognize appropriate flight conditions and automatically record the data. The system features six cycle counters that can each be configured with any of five types of counting regimes..

The flexibility of the system software allows simple downloading and formatting of data to provide seamless integration with existing maintenance routines.
